FAITH REQUIRES ACTION – TAKE THE STEP AND TRUST GOD!
“Faith without works is dead.” – James 2:26
As believers in Jesus Christ, we know that God is our Provider. We believe that He can open doors, create opportunities, supply our needs and make a way where there seems to be no way.
But there is something important we sometimes forget:
God's promise to provide does not mean we have permission to sit back and do nothing.
Faith is not an excuse for inactivity. Faith is the confidence that allows us to take action, even when we cannot see the full picture.
🔧 An electrician understands this principle
Imagine arriving at a new electrical installation. The distribution board is empty, cables still need to be installed, circuits must be connected, and testing must be completed.
You have the knowledge, the tools and the ability to do the job.
But imagine sitting under a tree, looking at the building and saying, "I believe God will provide. I have faith that this installation will be completed."
You can sit there for days, but nothing will change until someone gets up and starts working!
You need to pick up your tools, study the drawings, plan the installation and begin the work.
And sometimes, you may encounter challenges you did not anticipate. You might have to change your approach, learn something new or find a solution you have never used before.
The important thing is that you started. You took action.
Our walk with God works in much the same way.
🙏 Faith is trusting God enough to move
Consider Abraham.
In Hebrews 11:8, we read that Abraham obeyed God's calling and went out, even though he did not know where he was going.
Think about that!
God did not give Abraham a complete map of his future. He did not explain every challenge, every obstacle or every detail of the journey.
Abraham simply trusted God enough to take the first step.
His faith was demonstrated through his obedience and action.
Sometimes we want God to show us the entire journey before we are willing to take the first step.
We pray for opportunities but never apply for them.
We pray for a successful business but never approach a potential customer.
We pray for greater knowledge but never open a book.
We pray for financial provision but fail to use the opportunities and abilities already placed in our hands.
We want the results without taking the necessary action.
But what if the very thing you are praying for is waiting on you to take that first step of faith?
⚡ God can provide what you cannot
There is another powerful example in the Bible.
In John 6:5–13, Jesus fed thousands of people with just five loaves and two fish.
Humanly speaking, what they had was nowhere near enough.
But someone had to bring those five loaves and two fish forward.
Jesus took what was available, gave thanks and performed a miracle that no human effort could have accomplished.
That is a powerful lesson for us today.
Bring what you have. Do what you can. Trust God with what you cannot.
You might not have all the money you need to start your business.
You might not have all the experience required for your next opportunity.
You might not know how everything will work out.
But you have something!
You have abilities, knowledge, experience, time, opportunities and talents that God has already placed in your hands.
Start using them.
God does not require you to know everything about tomorrow before you can be faithful with what He has given you today.
🛠️ Your responsibility and God's provision
There is a beautiful balance between faith and action.
Proverbs 16:3 reminds us:
"Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established." (KJV)
Notice that Scripture speaks about committing our works to God.
There is something for us to do!
We must plan, prepare, work, learn, serve and move forward. We must also act with integrity, wisdom and obedience to God's Word.
Then we trust God with the outcome.
This does not mean every business will succeed, every opportunity will work out or every prayer will be answered exactly as we expect.
But it does mean that we can move forward with confidence, knowing that our future is not dependent on our own strength alone.
God can guide us through uncertainty, provide what we need and open doors we could never have opened ourselves.
And sometimes, His provision comes in a completely different form from what we expected.
💡 This week's challenge: Get up and take action!
I want to challenge every electrician, contractor, student and believer reading this message.
Ask yourself:
What have I been praying about but have taken no action towards?
Am I waiting for everything to be perfect before I start?
Have I allowed fear of the unknown to stop my progress?
What is one practical step I can take this week to move closer to what I believe God is calling me to do?
Maybe it is time to register for that qualification.
Maybe it is time to start that business.
Maybe it is time to make that phone call, submit that application, repair that relationship or pursue that opportunity.
Whatever it may be, do not allow uncertainty about tomorrow to prevent you from being faithful today.
Remember, even the greatest electrical installation begins with someone picking up a tool and starting the work.
And just like an electrical circuit, the potential may be there, but until the necessary connections are made, no useful work can be done.
🙏 A prayer for this week
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for being our Provider and for the abilities, opportunities and talents You have placed in our hands.
Forgive us for the times we have allowed fear, doubt or uncertainty to prevent us from taking action.
Give us the courage to move forward in faith, even when we cannot see the entire journey ahead.
Guide our decisions, bless the work of our hands and help us recognise the opportunities You place before us.
Teach us to do our part faithfully, while trusting You with the things that are beyond our control.
In Jesus' mighty name, Amen.
⚡ Final thought
"Faith does not mean sitting under a tree waiting for God to do everything. Faith means getting up, doing what you can, and trusting God to do what only He can."
Don't wait until you can see the entire staircase.
Take the first step in faith. Trust God with the next.
Have a blessed and productive week!
